What Makes the Word of God so Important?

This comes as no surprise for I speak of it with some regularity, but I cherish my week in the Boundary Waters with my brothers in Christ led by Andy McDougall. A key component of my cherishing is found in that when you journey with Andy, you are prepared for anything. He has all the gear, he knows how to cook every meal, he catches most of the fish, he can answer every question regarding plants, trees, and wild game, and he keeps me on track with my paddling!! When you journey with Andy there won’t be a situation or circumstance that catches you by surprise because he is prepared and by virtue of default, you are prepared too. 

The same can be said of God’s word and Paul clearly makes this point in 2 Timothy 3:14-17. This Sunday is Gideon Sunday, a day when we place special emphasis on the sufficiency and authority of God’s Word, and celebrate in this along with our Gideon brothers and sisters.
