Jesus of Nazareth Was Passing By
A relatively recent cultural phenomenon has developed called “FOMO” or the fear of missing out. Particularly prevalent in our social media craze, it refers to an anxiousness that is caused by the perception of missing out on something, especially if your social group is going to be present. We didn’t call it that back in the day, but I do remember our boys often making an appeal to do something based upon the reasoning that “all my friends are going”. For the record, FOMA did not always work with their parents!
We have something likened to this in our text for this week based upon Luke 18:35-43 where a blind man hears all the noise and excitement of a crowd gathering around him and asks what was going on. Upon learning that Jesus was passing by, and not wanting to miss out, he calls out to Him. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will look at this encounter and discover what it means for us today.
